Observation

Let’s observe how babies play! Join us in RIE parent-infant guidance classes in Pasadena.

You might ask, “Why would I want to observe them? I’m not writing a college paper.”

Here are some answers to that question:

  • When we are present and sitting on the floor, watching how our children play, we send them a message that what they are doing is worth our attention.
  • When we observe our children, we do not react or intervene too quickly, so the children have the opportunity to discover, learn, and feel confident and independent.
  • When we observe, we learn about what our babies are trying to communicate when they cry and how we can skillfully respond.
  • When we observe, we learn from our children what kind of feelings and experiences they have. We build a connection and trust. Trust begins from the very beginning!
